The SESI R&D Center is located at 6992 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, Maryland 21046, phone 443-539-0139 and employs 60+ engineers, scientists and technical experts, including an outstanding 32 PhDs. SESI specializes in research and development of unique and versatile LIDARs, tunable solid state lasers, MALDI, and electro-optic sensor systems. As a small business, SESI prides itself on attracting and retaining the industry’a top technology experts. SESI is primarily focused on two areas: 1) research and development (R&D) as it applies to bio-chemical, laser/optics, aviation, missile and other DoD weapon system hardware and 2) weapon system manufacturing and integration.

SESI’s R&D facility comprises laboratory space, clean room, specialized and diagnostic equipment for all aspects of laser and LIDAR electro-optical instrument research and development work. SESI possesses technology expertise in physical, chemical, bio-chemical sciences, electrical design, mechanical design, software development, modeling and simulation, manufacturing/production engineering, process and a myriad of other engineering disciplines. SESI has developed diagnostic equipment for its LIDAR programs allowing extensive laboratory testing to ensure system performance before field testing. These include measurements of alignment, optical efficiency, noise, beam shape, and spectral distribution. SESI also has extensive experience field testing bio-LIDARs on an assortment of simulants, interferants, and killed agents and has developed a library of data processing capabilities. The company's patent portfolio contains a dozen or so patents including ion-traps for mass spectrometers, MALDI, aerosol lidar optical architectures and tunable lasers.
